What are invisble braces? What are invisible braces pros and cons? In this blog, we will try to answer these and more questions that pop up everytime you think about invisible braces.

Oral health doesn’t necessarily mean the cavities in our teeth or the yellow tint that we have over them. It has a lot of other things to it, one of which is our crooked teeth.

Yes, you heard that right! You must have seen a lot of people wearing braces and you might have asked yourself “What was the need”? Well, for those people who don’t know, let me add to your knowledge that braces are not just worn to look beautiful but it is actually a need for people with crooked teeth.

You might just be knowing the straightening and moving part of it but there is something more to it which is that you have spaces in between your teeth, the bacteria get more space to hold on and damage your teeth.

With time, everything has moved ahead and when we talk about the medical field it has shown wonders. Right from the early 1800s when the ‘now called braces’ were invented by Christophe-Francois Delabarre, they have seen an immense change. From the material to the types and whatnot.

We have seen it changing just like any other development in medical science or for that matter in general technology. A new term has just started getting common which is ‘Invisible Braces‘. These are transparent trays made of special material used to move and straighten teeth just like the regular braces. A gentle and constant force is used to move the teeth in the required position without the hassles of the metal braces.

There are some major differences between these aligners and the regular ones. From the visibility to the removability, there are many major differences however the invisible braces are on the upper side because of the easy maintenance and the painless installation factor. But still, as they say, there is a good and a bad side to everything, same is the case here. Now, let’s talk about invisible braces pros and cons.

Let’s start with the positive things about these little wonders who take care of our smiles without or less likely anyone noticing them.

Invisible Braces Pros

  • The invisible braces provide multiple advantages over the old, traditional braces. They are comparatively discreet and provide better results in a hassle-free and quick manner.
  • Invisible braces are attractive when you look at them. They are moulded into the teeth making them almost invisible. Hence, if you were planning to get your teeth straightened but were not willing to let anyone know that you are wearing them, here’s a treat for you. With these invisible aligners, you can get your teeth aligned and not let anyone know about it. That’s an amazing thing, no?
  • These invisible braces are made of smooth and flexible plastic. These are not as hard as the wires or the metal hence making them very comfortable while wearing them. This factor has made it possible for a lot of people to straighten their teeth who were otherwise scared of it because of the pain and uneasiness involved in it.
  • Another property that makes these invisible braces better than regular metal braces is their easy removability. One can easily remove them while having food or maybe while brushing their teeth. This factor makes it very important since there is no compromise with oral hygiene. You can easily remove it by yourself without visiting your dentist.
  • The treatment procedure used in this type of bracing is usually computerized i.e a computer software is used to work on your treatment plan in advance hence you don’t need to visit your dentist for regular follow-ups. This can save you time and guarantee you better oral health.

Invisible Braces Cons

Now that you read a lot about the pros of these aligners, you must be thinking about if there can be any cons related to it. Well, as I mentioned earlier everything has two faces and the same is the case here. We’ll now discuss some of the cons of these braces to give you an idea about the other side so that it becomes easier for you to choose your braces whenever the need arises.

  • As they say, everything comes with a cost, the same is the case here. Depending upon your treatment plan, you may find these braces quite costlier than the conventional braces reason being the fact that these braces are very comfortable, easy to remove and can be very beneficial for your oral health if maintained well. Hence the first thing on the list is the costly price.
  • Although these braces have a lot of advantages over the regular ones, strict discipline is needed while going through this treatment. One must wear these braces for a minimum of 22 hours a day for them to be effective. Also, just like the contact lenses these also need to be packed very carefully when not in use. You should always keep in mind that wearing them for less time than prescribed can delay the results.
  • Many people have complained of feeling some sort of pressure and discomfort while the aligners were getting adjusted with the teeth. This made them have a slightly tough time till they got used to it.
  • You should always consult your dentist before choosing the type of braces you are going to wear. The reason being the fact that these invisible braces are more effective for mild or medium oral bite issues.  If the severity is high, then these invisible braces might not be very effective. Therefore always discuss with your dentist in advance
  • These braces are more likely to break off as compared to the metal braces reason being the fragile nature of the material involved. Hence you need to be very careful while these braces are on.

Medical science has done a lot of development as a result of which we get a lot of options for many things which were earlier very limited. This is indeed a very good thing however it sometimes lands us in a dilemma for which one to choose among the options.

You must always check with your dentist before making a decision because he/she is an expert on the subject. I have however explained pros and cons of these braces for you so that you can be a little aware in advance too. Though we know about a lot of amazing dentists around if you ever want to go for a treatment choose the one who is the best in invisible bracing in London. Happy bracing!
