Let’s discuss about smile makeover procedure in this blog but before that let’s talk about why we need one.

We all have naturally good-looking and wonderful smiles but some of us lose it due to a number of reasons. We need to understand the fact that our smile has a direct connection with our teeth. The perfect and healthy our teeth, the prettier our smile.

Everyone loves a beautiful smile, for it fills our hearts with joy and peace. And why shouldn’t one love it when it can fix a lot of things? Leave the worldly things aside, the benefits of smiling has its root in many religious scriptures. As they say, a smile is a curve that sets everything right.

This is the basic rule. What happens sometimes is that we have an accident or don’t take care of our teeth well which leads to many conditions like broken/deformed teeth, discolored teeth, crooked teeth, etc. Like already mentioned, these things happen either accidentally or due to some natural causes. But there are ways to fix your smile and that’s what is our topic for today, Smile Makeover.

What is a Smile Makeover?

A smile makeover, as the name suggests is a combination of a single or more than one cosmetic dentistry treatment that is used to improve the appearance of our smile.

The smile makeover procedure isn’t limited to a single procedure but many of them include bonding, teeth whitening,tooth-colored fillings, lumineers, veneers, dental crowns, implants or bridges.

Since these are different dental conditions, these require different types of procedures as well. Let’s have a look at them and their treatments one by one.

Conditions and Treatments?

1. Teeth Whitening:

One of the things that irritate and demotivate the most is having a discolored set of teeth. Although the natural color of the teeth is yellowish, there’s something with the crystal white teeth that everything wants. There are many home remedies for it but a verified dental procedure as well.

If you visit your dentist with discolored teeth, he’ll go for bleaching.

You must have come across this term, let me brief you about how it is done. In the internal non-vital power bleaching, hydrogen peroxide gel (30–35%) is placed in the pulp chamber and activated either by light or heat, and the temperature is usually between 50 and 60 °C maintained for five minutes before the tooth is allowed to cool for a further five minutes.

2. Tooth-Colored Fillings:

Bacteria, acid, and other sweetened foods cause cavities and these cavities become a major cause of broken teeth. Cavities can form on any tooth let that be a molar or pre-molar or for that matter a front facing teeth.

You can go for any type of filling on a molar or pre-molar but when it comes to the front teeth, you need to be very careful about the appearance as well.

This is where tooth-colored fillings come in place. Also known as a composite filling, this is a dental restoration procedure designed to be unnoticeable and natural in appearance. This procedure is mostly done on the front teeth as they blend well with the teeth and appear more natural than amalgam fillings.

This is the reason people consider it over other fillings which are darker and more easily seen by other people. This is one of the majorly done smile makeover procedures.

3. Dental Crowns :

We must understand the fact that no tooth is permanent i.e you may lose a part of it or a complete tooth at any point of time due to many reasons which can be natural or accidental.

This doesn’t mean that you’ll have to live with an empty space for a lifetime, making you look strange and unattractive. There are many procedures that help you fill the empty spaces in between or over your teeth and one of them is going for a dental crown.

Dental crowns are caps placed on top of damaged teeth. Crowns are used to protect, cover and restore the shape of your teeth when fillings don’t solve the problem.

Dental crowns are made of many different materials like metals, porcelain, resin and ceramic and each of them has its own procedure, requirement, and utility.

4. Dental Implants:

Another dental procedure that helps one fill the empty gaps that make them look unattractive is dental implants. This is a very commonly known smile makeover procedure that is done worldwide. These are the medical devices that are surgically implanted into the jaw to restore a person’s ability to chew or to improve their appearance. This procedure is a little more technical than the rest.

During the installation of these implants, your oral surgeon makes a cut to open your gum and expose the bone. After this is done, it is followed by drilling holes. Holes are drilled into the bone where the dental implant metal post will be placed.

This post serves as the tooth root hence it is implanted deep in the bone. The procedure isn’t over yet, a temporary denture is placed over it that looks very similar to a natural tooth. This denture is removable and you can remove it whenever you want to.

This was all about smile makeover. We hope that you have gotten a fair idea about it. Just make sure that before going for any procedure, you discuss it with your dentist.
