If you suffer from dental anxiety, we will strive to do everything we can to make your visit to our clinic as comfortable and relaxing as possible
Compassionate Staff
Although advanced dental sedation is an important part in treating you, we believe that having compassionate, kind and gentle staff goes a long way to helping to reduce dental anxiety too.
For this reason, we have put together a professional team that takes great pride in providing you a calming and supportive environment where you will feel comfortable. Each team member listens to your needs, which enables our consultants to tailor treatment with ease to your specific fears and concerns. We also strive to make sure all appointments are on time as we believe this can greatly reduce your stress as well.
At SDS, our anaesthetist, dentists, hygienists, and other team members are committed to providing outstanding dental care throughout your treatment with us.
Types of Sedation offered at SDS
We utilize several different types of sedation dentistry, this includes:
- Oral sedatives
- Nitrous Oxide Sedation (Happy Gas or Inhalation sedation)
- IV sedation (Intravenous)
If you require multiple appointments or longer procedures, using sedation can help you relax into a sleep-like state whilst treatment is carried out, without causing any further stress or discomfort.
If you require any additional information on our sedation options, you are invited to contact us on 0207 580 4200 or email smile@specialistdentalservices.com where a member of staff will be able to assist you further.
General Anaesthesia
If you an anxious patient who requires dental treatment which cannot be completed under conscious sedation, then general anaesthesia may be an alternative for you.
Once you have been examined at your consultation appointment and treatment is discussed, it may be necessary to undergo your proposed treatment under a general anaesthetic.
Some of our consultants have admittance right to private hospitals across London should you require treatment under a general anaesthetic.
If you require any further information, please do not hesitate to contact us on

Anxious Children
During your child’s first visit to see our consultant, Dr Sarah Shah, she will assess not only the treatment needed, but also the coping abilities of your child. If Sarah does not feel your child is able to cope with treatment, even under sedation then she will recommend general anaesthesia as an alternative, which will be carried out in hospital.
When your child needs a lengthy or technically difficult course of dental treatment, Inhalation Sedation (happy gas) is an accepted procedure in Paediatric Dentistry. At SDS Sarah Shah is specially trained in the administration of sedation on children. It is carried out in the dental chair and helps to reduce anxiety.
At SDS, we have an excellent safety record in sedation procedures. We will always inform you about the benefits and risks of any dental treatment prior to starting.
